Robert was the son of Robert Pit (-1737) and Anne Skivington (1705-1780). He was baptised on 18 October 1730 within the parish of Shillinge Ockford and probably in the Church of the Holy Rood.3Church of England, “Dorset, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, ...continue By the time of his marriage his surname ‘Pit’ and become ‘Pitt’ and this is the spelling that is used here. Shillinge Ockford was also known as Shilling Okeford and is now known as Shillingstone.
