Biography
 
George was the son of George Short and Thomazine Woodsford (1745-1824). George married Charlotte Harvey (c.1777-1862) by banns on 2 November 1802 within the parish of Bridport and possibly at the church of St Mary. George and Charlotte suffered many tragedies. Only three of their children definitely reached adulthood with one (Elizabeth) as yet unaccounted for. Ann, their eldest surviving daughter, had an illegitimate daughter, Jane, in 1838 that they raised and who also died in childhood.
 
On 6 June 1841 the census was taken in the parish of Bradpole. George was living with Charlotte and their son John and granddaughter Jane Short at Rax Lane. Bradpole has since been absorbed in to Bridport. George died at the age of 64 in Bradpole and was buried on 17 April 1844 within the parish of Bridport and probably in the grounds of the church of St Mary.10Church of England, ‘Dorset, England, Church of England Deaths and Burials, 1813-2010’, ...continue
