Nothing (as yet) is known of Johannah’s origins. There are no recorded baptisms with the surname of Legg in West Compton or Compton Valence so it is unlikely she was from the parish. The registers are, however, imperfect so we may never know. A John Legg married Mary Churchill at West Compton three years prior to her own marriage.
