Biography
 
Susanna was the daughter of Edward Woodsford (1698-1776) and Thomasin Hitchcock (1704-1784). Susanna married Francis Beer (Bear/Beeare) on 8 June 1759 within the parish of Misterton and probably in the church of St Leonard’s. The banns were read on the 6, 13 and 20 May 1759.4Church of England, ‘Somerset, England, Marriage Registers, Bonds and Allegations, ...continue Francis signed his name as ‘Beer’ at the time of his marriage and it is this spelling that is used for his children. He was a widower. Susanna signed her name as ‘Susanna’ and it is this spelling that is used throughout but her name was spelled a variety of ways within contemporary documents. According to the parish register they were both ‘of’ the parish of Misterton but how they came to be there is a mystery. Francis may have originated in Long Bredy which would explain the marriage as their families would have been known to each other. Their first four (known) children were baptised in Misterton. This was located within the parish of Upwey. Susanna’s fate has been elusive. She appears in several parish registers and in two different counties and her married name, Beer, has been difficult to trace due to considerable variation in spelling and subsequent transcription errors.
